Fiscal Year 2011 Statistics from the EEOC Break Down Discrimination
Posted: February 8, 2012
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has released their charge statistics for fiscal year 2011. Increasing for the sixth year in a row, total charges ended up at 99,947 with retaliation claims making up the largest portion at 37,334 (that's 37.4%).
Retaliation claims were the most common filing with the EEOC for the second year in a row. For FY 2009, Race and Retaliation came in at 33,579 and 33,613 respectively (a statistical tie at 36.0%). Prior to 2009, Race claims were the most common charge filed with the EEOC. In 2011, Race claims were just behind Retaliation at 35.4%. Sex was third at 28.5%. With only two years of data, claims involving the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA) were the least common. GINA claims remained level from 2010 with 1 of 500 being filed for discrimination based on genetic information.
